The IBM Research team in Zurich has once again accomplished a first in science. Using an atomic force microscope (AFM) they have photographed the chemical structure of a single molecule. What they have captured is the actual physical shape of the molecule, right down to the actual hydrogen bonds.

This sort of technology could open up a lot of doors for us, as having such a detailed and fine knowledge of things on the molecular scale has wide spread, game-changing capabilities.Previously, this same group of researchers, succeeded in measuring the charge of a single atom, another first. Their findings are reported in the Journal Science.
